The Problem

Deer overpopulation is a spiralling issue in the UK. With numbers estimated around the 2 million mark, invasive species especially cause havoc on farmland, roads and in woodland across the country.

Of the six species of deer that we have in the UK, only Red and Roe are native. Fallow, Muntjack, Sika and Chinese Water deer are all introduced species that push the capacity of our native ecosystem.

Deer eat the shoots off young trees in spring, impeding the chances of natural woodland regeneration. They also have a taste for our grower’s crops, from vegetables to combinable crops, thus having a serious effect on farmer livelihoods.

Our Solution

As a business deeply rooted in our local environment of West Sussex we see it as our responsibility as stewards of the landscape to help address this issue.

We have applied our core business ethos - connecting Chefs with Farmers - to the deer problem.

Each deer culled has an eager buyer for its meat and full traceability is available on each cut of meat sold.

We want to celebrate Venison for the superfood that it is. A natural product devoid of the nasties found in conventionally farmed meat. Nutritious, affordable and sustainable.
